Allow Checkboxes to be multiple columns

If I have a checkbox with more than a few (maybe 5 or 6) values, having that checkbox be just Horizontal or Vertical isn't visually pleasing.  Horizontal values don't all show on the page.  Vertical values require user to scroll.

Keep the box in front of the values, I'm referring to the full checkbox with its value.

In Xpages, when I used a Checkbox group and i have 20 values in that checkbox, there are only 2 formatting options, Horizontal and Vertical. So, on my xpages, my field is now either very long and I have to scroll down or it runs off the screen.

What I'm looking for is an option to format the checkbox group with as many columns as I want. I might want 4 columns which will give me 5 rows or maybe I want 5 columns, giving me 4 rows.

And with wide screen monitors the norm these days, give me more than 6 columns, which is currently the limit on a checkbox field on a normal form.

It's just a better use of space, IMO.

Keep the box in front of the values, I'm referring to the full checkbox with its value.

so what should be done? show the checkbox in front of every column? that would look ugly. Or freeze the first column while scrolling?
