Welcome to the #dominoforever Product Ideas Forum! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Enhance Mail Rules Dialog

The dialog for mail rules is a simple GUI for administrators to create mail rules. The mail rule itself is stored as a formula in the $FilterFormula in the MailRule form.
In fact the Rusles dialog and the script library "Rules" is used only for creating or editing mail rules. These elements are not used for the mail rule to work on the server. ( you can change the rules manually with tools like ScanEZ or such )
As only Contains, Not Contains, Is, IsNot is used to build the rule, you are not able to use pattern like *.domain.*
You could easily add this functionality to the existing rules script lib
My idea is to enhance the conditions part of the rules dialog to be able to type in a freehand formula. Doing this you could use @Like to search for pattern in fields. Once the formula evaluates to true, the according action will take place.

The result of this enhancement is a very flexible rule dialog.

please improve the rules, add new filtering options.

For example, add a new filter rule that is by attachment extension, since the current one (Attachment names contains) does not work for extensions ... eg, if I filter that Attachment names contains ,vb, and a file is called test.vb.txt that file is filtered.

have imagination, or copy the competition, which has many more rules available for years.

Realizing this you could provide new features in your product without much work.

What do you do with X-SomeHeader items that are not in the item drop down list? We hat such items added by Ironport.
I agree that "contains" is very flexible, but a formula is more powerful.

A "contains <string>" mail rule is fairly flexible. For example, if I want to place a hold on mail from a sender who sends from both gmail.com and email.com, I can specify mail.com in the rule, and mail from gmail.com will be marked as held by the router. Similarly, I can have the rule say sender contains @gmail. and this will act on addresses like @gmail.co.uk, gmail.es, etc. The closest I can get *.domain.* are rules like sender contains .gmail. (dot gmail dot).

Dramatically enhance server mail routing rules functionality (look at Exchange mail Rules)
