Force IBM Notes client to use VOP for mail database

Users do not like mail database design.

The idea is to use VOP (verse on premise) instead of traditional mail database design and traditional problems with Mime conversion to Notes Ritch Text format.

Some of guests and IBM's Thomas Hampel did not understand the idea. You are pointing to ICAA. ICAA is the minimized trimmed notes basic client that lacks a lot of functionality and works even worse than Notes basic client because it inherits browser's limitations in addition to trimmed functionality. You are also pointing to the fact that this is the same database in VOP and ICAA and Notes. While you are right about the same database, you are wrong about the idea - idea is that IBM did not manage to make mail application in IBM Notes to be loved by users despite they tried more that 15 years. VOP was the success thus IBM Notes should use VOP to display emails for IBM Notes end user.

The IDEA WAS TO FORCE NOTES CLIENT USE VOP for Mail application instead of trying to fix not fixable previous age technology (current mail10.ntf in Notes). It's a pity that IBM did not understand the idea. This idea was the key for IBM Notes to survive as a client itself. Users who do not like IBM Notes they feel this way because of mail application design in Notes mostly. This cannot be said about VOP. This is how idea was born.

Closing this idea because ICAA is the Notes Client which is forcing to open mail in the browser.

I believe that you mean that people do not like the Notes GUI for working in their mail file. Verse is just a different interface pointing to the same backend database. As a guest commented, ICAA can be configured to use VOP when the mail file is opened.

Why don't you use ICAA instead of a full Notes client? ICAA can be configured to open VoP when the user is trying to open his mailfile.

I checked HCL Places and think that it would not be an small task for IBM. However launching VOP for Mail Application would be starting using something that is newly developed and stopping enhancing something that has never had user friendly UI nor good technical implementation (all those issues with HTML emails and conversions, including copy paste conversions ).

It would be the best if IBM could use OS browser instead of XUL Runner within Notes application Window and pass him necessary cookie for automatic authentication. If that is not possible, then maybe XUL Runner can be replaced by Quantum? Otherwise IBM could launch separate Window with OS browser and bypass necessary cookie for automatic authentication.

I like the idea, but I think the technical implementation is a nightmare since XUL runner and other component related to the browser ability of Notes Client needs to be updated. Instead I would prefer something like HCL Places for a more modern look of "Notes Client".
