Want to Bring Notes to Modern Times, Then Clean Out the Old Bits

In Notes, Why is so much square, hard and angular instead of round, soft, and smooth?

But really, when people say Notes is old, it is because, we still retain so much "old ways" in modern times.

Edited per Thomas, so they have separate items.

  • Look at the Preferences options, Why is there still Notes ports? TCPIP is set by default, similarly during  a Notes install why does it ask for Netbios?

As requested, made this a new idea: https://domino-ideas.hcltechsw.com/ideas/NTS-I-1151

  • Why is there a preference to use the Notes browser and not the default on the PC? Leave the notes.ini setting if you think someone needs it, but why waste a preference on this?
  • Also, in the location document, some still have the browser settings and options, why?

As requested, made this a new idea: https://domino-ideas.hcltechsw.com/ideas/NTS-I-1152

  • Personal web stuff? Why do we need a web retriever (perweb.nsf)? Has anyone ever played with that setting?

As requested, made this a new idea:  https://domino-ideas.hcltechsw.com/ideas/NTS-I-1153

  • I can argue why do we still need a Location document if in the installation everything is covered, but I know that would be pushing too much.
  • Why do we have to have connection documents? DNS works in most companies.

  • Only show one Location document, once installed, not 5 or 6, it just causes more support issues by people accidentally clicking on the wrong one(why they click on it to begin with is another story). Leave the option to create more in the PNAB but stop with the mutli location thing.

As requested, made this a new idea https://domino-ideas.hcltechsw.com/ideas/NTS-I-1154

  • Why is there a location type on the basics tab of a Location?

As requested, made this a new idea: https://domino-ideas.hcltechsw.com/ideas/NTS-I-1155

  • And maybe we need to rethink the name replication as most people think of synchronization.

I hated to talk to customers that would raise these kinds of things and still do even when I know why we have ID files, location documents and other relics.

Can you please create one entry for each idea? Tracking those ideas would be much easier then and we can provide you with an actual status for each one.

I agree it would be nice if most of that stuff could be removed. My users get in there and mess up everything. Clean up the user interface and make it graphically scalable.

Agree with you regarding points 1, 2, 3, 4 and 9, which is why I upvoted your idea.

    Disagree on the remaining points.

I would definitely miss Locations if they were removed, mainly because I want to be able to distinguish offline, online and travel. (The latter is important to me when I'm on a train or plane where I do not have a stable Internet connection -- meaning that I prefer to work mostly offline, while I still want to be able to replicate.)

IMO, Connection documents can be useful even today, because DNS setups are not always perfect.

I upvoted because some things are absolutely correct.
